David Humphreys is a multidisciplinary artist driven by the enjoyment of making. He nurtures a prolific studio practice by keeping his own artistic decision-making at arms length, instead limiting his direct involvement through a formulaic approach to process and material.

His methods establish a structure which limits overthinking during the making process. Sometimes he is guided by chance, sometimes by the characteristics of materials, sometimes by following a line, sometimes by separating from a whole. David seeks ways to relinquish control, allowing the direction of the work to form organically as a result of the elements and connections he recognises along the way. 

David’s work is an exercise in letting go; starting with one component, being led to the next, and then the next, until complete.
